Connect an SMS channel to send and receive messages in AlfaChat.
The SMS channel allows you to send and receive SMS messages directly in AlfaChat.
You can communicate with customers via SMS in the same application alongside other connected channels. All messages are available to AlfaChat operators.
To start using SMS, you need to choose and configure one of the available connection methods.
SMS connection methods
AlfaChat supports different ways to connect an SMS channel. The best option depends on your business needs and how you plan to use SMS.
Connecting via an Android smartphone
With the SMSGate app, you can turn a regular Android smartphone into an SMS gateway.
The app runs in the background and allows you to send and receive SMS messages through AlfaChat using your phone's SIM card.
Benefits of this connection method:
- Use your existing phone number.
- Send and receive SMS messages directly in AlfaChat.
- Allow multiple operators to work with the same SMS channel.
- No need to sign a contract with an SMS provider.
- Continue using your smartphone as usual.
SMSGate requires an Android smartphone with an active SIM card and an internet connection. SMS messages are charged by your mobile operator according to your current plan.
Limitations and recommendations
When using SMSGate, messages are sent through a regular SIM card provided by your mobile operator.
This connection method is recommended for individual customer conversations, handling inquiries, and sending a small number of notifications.
We do not recommend using SMSGate for bulk SMS campaigns.
Mobile operators may restrict message sending or block your phone number if they detect activity that violates their terms of service.
For bulk and promotional SMS campaigns, we recommend using specialized SMS providers.
Connecting via an SMS provider
AlfaChat plans to support SMS connections through specialized providers in the future.
This connection method will be designed for businesses that need bulk notifications, promotional SMS campaigns, and message delivery without using an Android smartphone.
Available features, messaging costs, and the ability to use a custom sender ID will depend on the selected provider.
SMS provider integrations are planned for future AlfaChat updates. Currently, SMSGate is the available method for connecting an SMS channel.
